Built in the Poconos: Communication During New Home Construction - Silence Should Never Be Part of the Blueprint

This post is part of "Built in the Poconos" - an ongoing series from Robert Ace Builders sharing real customer stories and builder experiences from our 75 years of combined experience across the Pocono region and beyond.

The other day, I was catching up with a friend who’s lives down south and is currently building a million-dollar new home in a large Northeast metro area.
He has some basic construction knowledge — he’s done remodeling and small home improvement projects — but he’s never built a new home from the ground up.
So naturally, I asked:
“How’s the build progressing?”
He paused.
“I’m… not really sure.”
That answer stopped me cold. After a moment, I asked,
“What do you mean you’re not sure?”
He explained that he had joined a Facebook group for the community where he’s building. Recently, residents were posting about construction equipment showing up near the front entrance.
His lot happens to be in that area.
Since he’s still living out of state until the home is complete, he assumed the equipment might be there to excavate his lot or pour his foundation.
Assumed.
Not confirmed.
Not communicated.
Not clearly explained.
For someone building a custom home, that uncertainty shouldn’t exist.
I suggested he reach out to his builder’s representative for clarification.
His response was even more concerning:
“Yeah… but they’re not very helpful when I ask questions.”
That’s the moment that frustration set in.
When you’re building a new home — especially from a distance — communication isn’t a luxury.
Communication during new home construction is essential!
At minimum, a home builder should proactively send milestone updates:
“We started excavation today.”
“Foundation is being poured this week.”
“Framing begins Monday.”
“Weather may push us back two days.”
Better yet, there should be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly update calls so homeowners always know:
What’s happening
What’s next
Whether timelines have shifted
What decisions are coming
You should never have to rely on a neighborhood Facebook group to understand what’s happening with your project.
It was an all too familiar situation that I had seen before. Customers come into our office all the time with stories about other builders, just like this one.
It's one of the main reasons why, at Robert Ace Builders, we structured our process differently.
Communication is not optional.
Which is why we made it one of the key tenets of our Ace Promise :
You’ll never be left wondering - We provide regular weekly updates, share progress photos, and make ourselves available for questions and decisions as they arise. You’ll always know what’s happening, when it’s happening, and why.
Because transparency builds trust.
And trust builds great homes.
Luckily for my friend, he has a resource to honestly advise him on what to expect and how to proceed.
Let Robert Ace Builders be that resource for you.
Reach out to us and find out what makes us different.
Our defined, communication-driven process can transform your experience, making building a new home easy and headache free.
At Robert Ace Builders, we walk you through every step so that crafting your home is every bit as enjoyable as the memories you’ll create there.
