The 575 additional square foot added to this home may not seem like much, but it totally transformed the living and dining room from a cramped, narrow space into a family friendly area perfect for vacation get-togethers! It was important to these homeowners that the original character of the house be maintained while updating the public shared areas to a more contemporary and modern feel. This was achieved using rustic wood accents within a clean off-white color palette. The soaring volume ceiling enhances the spaciousness of the additional areas, while the upper-level dormer allows plenty of nature light and provides a secondary lake view from the area outside the second-floor bedrooms. The fireplace was relocated to the side wall and finished with a warm stone and wood mantel to further enhance the rustic scheme. The relocation of the fireplace also offered the opportunity to create dual focal points; one being the fireplace itself, and the other being the sliding glass doors with views of the lake. The new entry area and drop zone also feature plenty of glass for natural light and additional lake views. Outside a new covered entry porch protects the front door from weather and provides a welcoming and clearly defined entrance for arriving guests. The 420 square foot rear deck is situated across the entire rear of the home for maximum outdoor lake views. By providing deck access through multiple sliding glass and swinging doors, the rear deck also functionally extends the entertainment space.
